Char Broil Infrared Gas Grill Reviews
The Char Broil Patio Bistro Infrared Gas Grill provides a wonderful option for cooking outstanding meals on the grill that can be purchased at a very reasonable budget. Its heat technology allows even cooking and great performance for your patio grilling.
Char Broil Patio Bistro Infrared Gas Grill Fuel Usage
These new Patio Bistros are available both as gas and electric models. This review will focus on the gas model.
The Char Broil Patio Bistro Infrared Gas Grill has an 12,000 BTU burner fuel efficient system.
The Infrared Gas Grill uses a round gas tube that is designed to prevent flare-ups. The tube is covered by a round metal shield. An easy to use dial with five positions that makes adjusting the flame very simple.
Char Broil Patio Bistro Infrared Gas Grill Size and Dimensions
There is a 240 square inch cooking surface. You are able to cook up to 12 hamburgers. This is the perfect grill for a small family that has a limited amount of space like a patio or porch.
One grill owner noted on his review at Amazon that the specs that Amazon describes for this grill are incorrect. It speaks of 320 square inches. The Char Broil speaks of 240 (this is the correct one).
The grill does include a warming rack which is where the 320 square inches might come in. But the bottom line is that you have a cooking surface of 240 sq-inches that will allow you to cook between 8 -12 burgers and a warming rack that can be used for warming the buns, etc.
Char Broil Bistro Infrared Gas Grill Clean Up
Unlike the Coleman Gas Grill mentioned in another review on our site where there were several complaints by users on the difficulty of cleaning the grill (though as we mentioned there are some tricks for making this easier), the Char Broil Bistro Infrared Gas Grill is easy to clean if one follows the instructions given by the manufacturer about burning off the junk after each use.
The important thing with this “infrared grill” when it comes to cleaning is to make sure to keep all of the little slots clear for heat to get to the food. If some are clogged then the cooking can get uneven. One owner suggested to leave it on high (position n.5 on dial) as you eat. This will burn off any residue at 700 degrees (pretty hot!) for about fifteen minutes or so. Then once it cools down you can wipe it clean.
Other Features of the Char Broil Bistro Infrared Gas Grill
- An easy-to-light electronic ignition
- A stainless steel premium cooking grate
- A temperature gauge (this is a nice thing to have on a small grill)
- The material is heavy (no cheap plastic or anything like that)
- Includes a strap to secure in the wind
- Heats up to 700 degrees in less than fifteen minutes
- An easy to clean exterior that is porcelain coated (it actually has a pretty cool look)
Infrared gas grill – what exactly is this? One customer complained that this really isn’t infrared. Well, it depends what you mean by infrared. What is meant here is that this is not your typical gas grill that is over the flame. This technology provides more even cooking that your typical gas grill.
Char Broil Bistro Infrared Gas Grill Customer Reviews
Ok… consumers as it often happens vary in their description of how hard this grill is to put together. One said, “easy to put together…” while another consumer said the exact opposite, “assembly is a pain…”
However, after reading all the reviews and doing quite a bit of research what seems to be consistent is that this grill does take some time to put together. If at all possible this grill is better put together someone else. You need to plan on spending about an hour to an hour and half to do it. One consumer said that it is so worth it once you get this out of the way because of how good it cooks.
- This patio grill heats up really fast and stays hot even with when there is wind. A major pro that I saw over and over is that it has a consistent heat across the surface. This has to do with its infrared technology. Very solid grill with great performance.
- Cooks great tasting meats. Many comment that they had some of the best burgers and steaks on this grill. As one consumer put it this grill turns the average Joe into a steakhouse chef
- Easy to ignite
- Prevents flare ups
- Easy to keep clean
- Just a fun little additional “bonus” to this grill is the cooking guide that comes with some fun things for those who can’t wait to start grilling everything: recipes, cooking instructions, explanation of the difference between grill and barbecue, searing (for those who are new to grilling)
The main consistent complaint of this grill has been related to the assembly. The complaints relate to the time it takes (hour and half approx.) and the challenge of putting it together (specifically the preinstalled hubcaps that need to be removed in order to put it together). One consumer mentioned that he called Charbroil and they admitted that shipping the wheels with the caps already installed was an error at the factory.
Summary (some final thoughts)
If it were me deciding on this grill, I wouldn’t base the decision solely on the assembly since this is a one time challenge / time investment. There are some helpful tips among in the consumer reviews on how to best assemble. This is probably the one main negative to this grill that can be solved a little time, following helpful tips and effort for the first time it is assembled. Many who discuss the cons of the assembly then come back and update their review have great things to say about its performance.
By the way, the video below is actually the same grill except it is the electric version of it. However, it will give you an idea of what the grill looks like.
