Gas Grills under $150

Gas Grills Under 150Many people these days are tight on money.  And so I’ve put together a compilation of the top five gas grills under $150.  There are a couple of really good gas grills right above this amount that I will at least mention in passing since they were within $ 10-20 of the $150 mark.

I’ve picked these grills based on mainly two factors:  popularity on Amazon (the most sold grills in this price range) and average rating from customer reviews.  I picked five because it seems to be a good number to compare.  The first three I especially recommend since when I write a review of a product I always pick a product that has at least an average rating of four stars or more.  The last two grills on my list are right about the three and a half mark but they are included because they are gas grills under 150 dollars and are still among the most sold for this category in Amazon.  However, as I mentioned before I will mention in passing a couple of other grills that are right above $150 that you may choose to check out as well.

I’ve also included a chart for you to see these grills side by side.  Happy shopping and happy grilling!

Here are more information about the grills I have included in the above table.

Weber 1520 Propane Gas Go-Anywhere Grill

What I like about this grill is that it is small and very well priced.  Normally when you get something cheap you compromise quality.  This is a Weber grill which I believe is the best brand overall for gas grills and the price is extremely reasonable.  If you are looking for an economical grill that comes with

  • easy-to-use push-button ignition system
  • porcelain-enameled flavorizer bars
  • 160-square-inches of cooking surface on a triple nickel-plated cooking grate
  • A porcelain enameled coating that prevents rust and fading

this would be a great buy.  This is especially a good option if you are going to use it for camping.  Another great benefit is its light weight (16 pounds). It has over four stars at Amazon from reviewers.  The main complaint that reviewers have made with this grill has been how the flame goes out with wind.  One reviewer gave an update on this problem and solved it by adjusting the screw to compensate the pressure.

Weber 386002 Q 100 Portable Propane Gas Grill

The greatest feature of the previous grill that I mentioned is probably its price. If you are wanting something more permanent (not just for camping) and with a little more cooking space this is another really good grill. Let me first mention that very few gas grills have such a high reviewers rating (4.7 in this case). I love to hear what actual reviewers say because it tends to be pretty objective. That’s a very high rating.
Some of the features of the weber q 100 portable gas grill include:

  • 189-square-inch cooking area
  • Made of cast-aluminum lid and body with glass-reinforced nylon frame
  • Push-button ignition with adjustable burner valve
  • Porcelain-enameled cast-iron cooking grates

A few other additional benefits that make this grill a great purchase are: the recipe book that is included and the flavorizer system that is integrated into the cooking grate. Its hard to find something negative with this grill but the small percentage of reviewers that complain about it, speak of having problems with the regulators (although most of these are from a few years back) and not getting hot enough. But once again this has to be compared with what the other hundred of reviewers who have given it five stars have to say.

Cuisinart CGG-180T Petit Gourmet Portable Tabletop Gas Grill

One of the things I really like about this grill is how easy it is to carry.  For a gas grill it is very light.  It has a briefcase-style carrying handle and it only weighs 13 pounds.  If you want something really portable this is a great grill.  Some other features this grill has are:

  • 145-square-inch grilling area with foldaway legs
  • Cooks 8 burgers, 8 steaks, 6 to 10 chicken breasts, or 4 pounds of fish at once
  • Powerful 5,500 BTU stainless-steel burner and even-heating porcelain-enameled grate
  • Aluminum legs and stabilizing feet set up in seconds; integrated lid lock that keeps lid secure

The main complaints with this grill seem to be related to the lack of quality in its components, not having cast-iron cooking grates like a Weber.  This grill has less reviews than the two above, so time will tell the real quality of this grill.  Right now it does have over four stars average rating.

Char-Broil 465133010/4651330 Tabletop Grill

his is a very economical gas grill.  If you are looking to spend the bare minimum I don’t know that you’ll find something more economical than this grill.  At the time I am writing this it is priced at twenty nine dollars!  Its hard to believe that you can actually buy a gas grill for that money.  This is obviously a very simple grill and can’t really be compared with the quality of a weber but I have included it because it is a popular grill for the category of gas grills under 150 at Amazon and because some of you may be looking to spend the absolutely bare minimum on a gas grill.  So here are some of its features:

  • 12,000 BTUs
  •  187 square inch cooking area
  • Filtered regulator
  • Folding legs for easy handling

What do the people who buy this gas grill actually say about it?  My recommendation is take some time to read the actual reviewers comments (order it by newest first).  What you’ll find is that in most cases the reviews are either on one extreme or the other.  They either think it is a terrible grill or they feel its perfect for its use.  My take on it is that you can’t expect a whole lot from a grill that is under thirty bucks and I almost hesitated to include it but I thought its good to include for comparison sake and for those of you who are on a really tight budget.

Char-Broil 35,000 BTU 2-Burner Gas Grill, 530 Square Inch with Side Burner

Ok… This is the first grill since I have been writing reviews for this site that I DO NOT recommend. So why put it on the list of top five grills? Well, it is among the top five bestsellers at Amazon for gas grills under 150. And for comparison I think it is helpful for you to know grills that are NOT a good buy . Here are a few reasons why I would not consider buying this one:

– I normally never recommend a grill that has an average of less than four stars on Amazon by real reviewers.

– I did mention as a possibility the Char-Broil 465133010/4651330 Tabletop Grill mainly because it is such an economical gas grill and it is under 30 dollars last time I checked. But this Char-Broil grill doesn’t even make it to three stars with several reviewers having some significant complains with it.

-It’s not even that economical for the ‘cheap’ grill that you are getting (over $100) so with other great options available I would not get this gas grill

Lastly, I wrote that there were two other gas grills that I would at least mention in passing. Even though they are not quite under $150 they are so close and they are good enough that it is worth to at least mention them. One of them is the Coleman Road Trip Grill. I have reviewed this gas grill on this site if you want to read more about it. Excellent value for what you pay for. When I purchased it, it was under $150. Now it has gone up a little bit (but not much). You can check at Amazon the current price that they have for it but when I checked it was about ten dollars over the $150 mark.

The other gas grill that is worth mentioning is the Char Broil Patio Bistro Infrared Gas Grill. Unlike the other Char Broil grill above that I did not recommend, this gas grill is a very good one with pretty good reviews (average four star rating). I have also written an extensive review on this gas grill if you would like to check it out.
